We’re pleased to announce the peer-reviewed publication of interim results from our ongoing MASTRR Registry, reporting low infection rates and no adverse events definitely related to Myriad products.
Highlights
- Largest published prospective bioscaffold analysis: To AROA’s knowledge, the interim analysis of the MASTRR Registry represents the largest published prospective analysis of in-patient soft tissue reconstruction using a bioscaffold, comprising 411 patients and 474 soft tissue defects across 10 US centers.
- Low infection rates in a highly challenging population: Deep tissue infection occurred in only 0.7% of patients and superficial infection in 2.9%. No infections were attributed to Myriad.
- A median application of one with no adverse events definitely related to Myriad over a median follow-up of 27 weeks.
- Growing evidence base supports adoption: More than 550 patients are now enrolled in the MASTRR Registry, building evidence to support surgeon confidence, product differentiation and broader adoption.
- Favourable infection profile: While the MASTRR Registry was not a comparative study, it discussed the infection rate observed with Myriad alongside the higher infection rates reported in recent meta-analyses relating to several other commercially available bioscaffolds.
The study, published in Advances in Therapy, included 411 patients enrolled in the MASTRR Registry across 10 US centres, representing 474 soft tissue defects. To AROA’s knowledge, it is the largest published prospective analysis of a bioscaffold in in-patient soft tissue reconstruction.
The MASTRR Registry is an ongoing prospective, multicentre observational study evaluating the real-world safety and performance of Myriad Matrix™ and Myriad Morcells™ across a range of complex soft tissue reconstruction procedures.
More than 550 patients are currently enrolled, and the registry is approved to enrol up to 800 patients across 15 US sites.
The study population represented a particularly challenging real-world surgical cohort. Approximately 59% of patients were ASA Class III or IV, indicating significant underlying systemic disease. 35% had diabetes, 30% had vascular disease and 23% used nicotine. The defects were similarly complex — approximately 89% were clean-contaminated or contaminated, 59% were chronic (over 1 month old), 15% had confirmed osteomyelitis and 11% involved exposed structures, including bone, tendon, or viscera.
Despite the complexities of the patient cohort, deep tissue infection occurred in only 0.7% of patients, while superficial infection occurred in 2.9%. Importantly, no infections were definitely attributed to Myriad, over a median follow-up period of 27 weeks. Across the 474 defects, the median number of Myriad applications was one.
The authors of the published interim analysis presented Myriad’s low infection rates in the context of the infection rates of several resorbable synthetic bioscaffold products used in complex soft tissue reconstruction, as reported in separately published meta-analyses. Notably, the reported infection rates for those products ranged from 16–25%.
The low infection rates observed in the interim analysis of the MASTRR Registry are clinically significant because post-operative infections can delay healing, increase the risk of further complications and may require additional treatments, surgical interventions or hospitalisation. For example, a large US analysis of patients undergoing open surgical procedures found that a surgical site infection added an average 7.8–9.3 days to a patient’s hospital stay and approximately US$18,600–US$21,000 in healthcare costs, with deep tissue infections creating an even greater burden.1
While the interim analysis assessed safety rather than healthcare utilisation or cost savings, Myriad’s favourable infection profile for patients may provide value to healthcare providers managing complex soft tissue defects.
Against the background of substantial patient and defect complexity, the low observed infection rates and very low incidence of device-related adverse events provides real-world evidence supporting Myriad’s compelling safety profile.
We believe the findings of this study will support surgeon adoption across a broad range of complex soft tissue reconstruction procedures, building on the strong commercial momentum achieved in FY26, when Myriad sales grew by 54%.
The published interim analysis adds to previously published procedure specific publications from the MASTRR Registry in lower extremity reconstruction, trauma, burns, pilonidal disease and pressure injuries.
We expect the expanding registry dataset to support further analyses across multiple surgical specialties and applications.
